OCEANSIDE COMMUNITY MAKERSPACE YOUTH ART COMPETITION
This competition is for the high school student who would like an opportunity to have their artistic ability be recognized by the community. Upon submitting up to two original art entries, the student will be featured in an art exhibit and be eligible for prizes, awards and to have their art be immortalized on the walls of the Oceanside Community MakerSpace.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible for the OC MakerSpace youth art competition you need to be between 12 and 19 years of age and a resident of the Oceanside Community. This includes: Parksville, Qualicum, Nanoose Bay, Coombs, Errington, French Creek, Bowser and Deep Bay. Your completed application form should be submitted to theoceansideMakerSpace@gmail.com by Monday Feb. 19, 2018. The email subject title should read: “OC MakerSpace Youth Art Competition –“ + NAME.
CONCEPT AND MEDIUM REQUIREMENTS
Submissions should be original art where you depict an aspect of science, technology, engineering or math in an interesting or unusual way. Acceptable mediums include 2D drawings, paintings or computer graphics whose dimensions don’t exceed 12×16 inches. Each person can submit two different art pieces per application. Hard copies of your work should be submitted with a copy of your application to the OC MakerSpace between 6:00 pm and 9:00 pm on Wednesdays up until Wednesday Feb. 21, 2018
ART EXHIBIT AND PRIZE INFORMATION
Sunday Feb. 25, 2018 the McMillan Art Centre will host the opening day exhibit which will feature all qualified art submissions. The opening day exhibit will start at 1:00 pm and go until 4:00 pm. Before closing, the opening day exhibit will count votes and award two winners with either the “OC MakerSpace Choice Award” or “People’s Choice Award”. Each winner will receive a three month OC MakerSpace family membership (valued at $210), which includes a membership for you, two parents/guardians and a sibling. In addition, a cash prize of $100 and $50 respectively will be given to the winners upon completing a large scaled version of their winning submission (see “Winner Prize Follow-up“)
After opening day, the exhibit will be moved to the OC MakerSpace where it will remain open on Wednesdays and weekends till Saturday Mar. 20, 2018. On Wednesdays the exhibit will be accessible between 6:00 pm and 9:00 pm. and other times when the MakerSpace is open. While the exhibit runs you will have the opportunity to like your favourite submissions on Facebook. The submission with the most likes will be awarded the Facebook choice award and a $20 cash prize to be picked up on Wednesday Mar. 24, 2018.
SELL OR PICK UP YOUR SUBMISSION
If you are interested in having your submission available for purchase, please indicate so in the OC MakerSpace Youth Art Applicant Form. The proceeds from a sold submission will be split 70/30 between the artist and the OC MakerSpace respectively. You may list your submission to be sold by auction or at a fixed price. The suggested start bid price is $10 and the suggested minimum fixed price is $25. Art proceeds and unsold art should be picked up at the OC MakerSpace on Wednesday Mar. 24, 2018 between 6:00 pm and 9 pm.
WINNER PRIZE FOLLOW-UP
The two winners chosen during the opening exhibit will be expected to finish a large scale version of their winning entry before they receive their cash prize. After the winners have been confirmed, the OC MakerSpace will setup a time to discuss and agree on the specifics of the scaled art piece. The OC MakerSpace will provide the winners with the supplies and support they need to create a scaled version of their winning submission.
